Challenging peak oil

September 19, 2011

Interesting piece challenging the notion of peak oil below. Essentially “peak oil” posits that we’ve used up more than 50% of the oil in the ground and we are facing immanent and abrupt oil shortages.

The debate around peak oil is a fascinating one but ultimately I’m agnostic on the issue.

The bottom line is this: whether we’re on our last oily drop or there remains oceans of the stuff under the Earth’s crust, for a whole host of very valid and pressing environmental and security concerns we need to find and develop new and renewable energy sources.

Any other discussion is academic.
