Hopeful signs of political courage

“There is a lot of talk about pledges,” Ohio Republican Representative Steve LaTourette said, referring to a nonbinding commitment many Republicans have signed not to support tax increases. “It’s time to put the pledges in a bonfire.”

This is probably one of the most sane, most reasonable, most pragmatic pieces of politic commentary I’ve read in a long time. LaTourette deserves a medal for just uttering such words.

But Congress is unsurpassed in its ability to disappoint… so we’ll have to see what happens.
