Actually, you don’t need the browser. You can run the content as a stand alone app without any of the browser UI around it.
Totally true:
Developers can use HTML5 to get their creations on a variety of smartphones, tablets and PCs without tailoring apps for specific hardware or the online stores that have become gatekeepers to mobile commerce.
HMTL5 let developers use the ubiquity of the web to distribute apps (and I mean apps, not web pages)
