Online content making it big

May 1, 2012

Rumor has it that Revision3 is in M&A talks with the Discovery Channel. As a huge fan of Revision3 and the path it blazed for online video content, this is both good and not-so-good news.

Good news that it is obviously great to see an online property as awesome as Revision3 get the mainstream attention it deserves. Revision3 is an innovator both in content as well as technology, recently having migrated its content over to HTML5

But still… it would be great to see the company continue to see how far it could go.  Maybe it could grow so big that it would acquire Discovery, and not the other way around.

But net-net, regardless if the deal ever happens, the fact that Revision3 is getting courted by a major cable channel is great news for the industry, great news for Revision3 and great news for those of us who have high hopes for online video.

Seven years in, Revision3 and its stable of web stars have more than survived the tough early days of building a video content business on the web. The San Francisco company is now bringing in a respectable 100 million video views per month, following a big 2011 — and it may be about to cash in.
