Cities are the engine for growth, we need to invest

Great video interview with Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi, a smart guy, a great believer in cities, and (to my good fortune) my former Canada25 colleague.

He talks about Calgary but what he says holds true for all cities, be they in Canada, US, Europe or anyplace else. Cities are the engine for economic development and we need to invest in them.

Great cities attract great people, great ideas and therefore great economic growth. Putting money into cities to make them more livable, attractive and enjoyable isn’t a “handout” but an investment not only in the city, but in the greater prospect of economic growth for the entire country.
