YouTube evolves to become a major movie site

April 16, 2012

Remember way back when in the time of CinemaNow and the like… all these sites trying to become major movie destinations?

Well, who would have thought the company to really bring movies to the desktop would be the same one that also brought you cat videos and exploding Mentos.

Sure, YouTube had some (a lot?) of help from its Googly parent, but still, it is pretty impressive to see how far the company has come from user-generated to professionally generated content (and all the points in between!)

Google announced Monday that it has reached a deal to bring about 600 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film titles, including such classics as Rocky, The Terminator, Hoosiers, Robocop and Rain Man, to the film-rental catalogs of YouTube and Google Play.
